The Dominican Republic: from the beautiful beaches of Punta Cana to top-notch water sports in Puerto Plata, there’s no denying that it’s one of the most popular Caribbean destinations. There are over 100 all-inclusive resorts on the island, so picking the perfect one can be a challenge.
If you’re looking for a new resort, here’s a list of the 10 newest resorts in the Dominican Republic:
Majestic Mirage Punta Cana

The all-suite Majestic Mirage opened in Punta Cana this January. The new resort is geared toward adults, with Jacuzzis on every balcony, swim-up suites and the exclusive Mirage Club offering multiple pools, a private beach with Bali beds and two rooftop lounges just for adults. Plus, Majestic Resorts offer some of the best lagoon pools in the Dominican Republic.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana

The all-inclusive Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana opened in May and appeals to Nickelodeon fans and luxury resort lovers alike. Kids will love sampling slime smoothies and splashing away at the water park, while adults will appreciate stylish suites, an upscale spa and an adults-only restaurant. For the ultimate Nickelodeon experience, book the Pineapple Villa inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants’ home in Bikini Bottom.
Excellence El Carmen

Adults-only Excellence El Carmen debuted in Punta Cana in September. A wide array of restaurants, beach and pool wait service, and suites with rooftop terraces and private pools make this new resort stand out. Indulge in the Excellence Club for upgraded benefits like a private beach area, private lounge, top-shelf bar and VIP Bvlgari toiletries.
Dreams Dominicus La Romana

Dreams’ parent company AM Resorts is busy expanding in the Dominican Republic this year. Dreams Dominicus La Romana opened in mid November and offers something for everyone, including island hopping to nearby Saona Island, an onsite dive shop and kids’ club with treasure hunts and movies on the beach. The all-inclusive resort is located in Bayahibe, a popular beach area on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic.
Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa

The adults-only Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa is another AM Resorts opening. What makes this resort stand out is its location in the private gated community of Cap Cana (Cap Cana is part of Punta Cana, on the east coast of the Dominican Republic). The resort features 24-hour room service, swim-out suites, an infinity pool and seven a la carte restaurants that don’t require reservations. Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa opened in December.
Now Onyx Punta Cana

All-inclusive Now Onyx Punta Cana opened in November with nine restaurants, ten bars, and 24-hour room service. The accommodations here are great — all ground floor suites are swim-out suites with direct access to a pool right from the patio, and there’s a whirlpool on every balcony. Five pools, a kids’ club, a casino, spa and nightclub round out the extensive offerings.
Riu Republica

Riu’s newest 24-hour all-inclusive resort opened in Punta Cana in June with two infinity pools, a variety of dining options including a steakhouse, and regularly restocked liquor dispensers in every room. Riu is known for its inclusions, but what makes this new resort particularly appealing is the introductory rate of $90 per person, per night — a bargain for a new resort.
CHIC by Royalton Luxury Resorts

The all-inclusive CHIC by Royalton isn’t the newest kid on the block, but its trendsetting features and amenities keeps it feeling fresh. The adults-only resort features modern, upscale perks like an outdoor disco with a DJ booth in the pool, an oxygen bar, a chef’s table dining experience, and an extensive spa with hydrotherapy circuit. Guests can even take a selfie at the resort’s unique mermaid pool.
Gansevoort Dominican Republic

Luxury travelers know the name Gansevoort, and the Gansevoort Dominican Republic doesn’t disappoint. Highlights of the resort include a three-tiered infinity pool, an exclusive adults-only pool, and a variety of dining and drink options including a Peruvian restaurant and a wine and cigar cellar. The resort isn’t all-inclusive, but we like its location on the beach in Puerto Plata, a popular resort area on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
Sunscape Puerto Plata

Another new Puerto Plata resort debuted this year – Sunscape Puerto Plata. The all-inclusive Sunscape resort appeals to families, with spacious rooms, plenty of water sports, a pizza shop, and a wallet-friendly price tag. Adults can have a romantic night away from the kids at Gohan, the adults-only Asian restaurant.
