If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-trail island with old-world Caribbean feel, then Grenada is a great option. Located at the end of the Windward islands in the southern Caribbean, Grenada woos couples with mangrove-lined beaches, deep tropical forests and scents of cinnamon and nutmeg. After all, this is the isle of spice – and chocolate.

Part of Grenada’s appeal is that is has rainforests just as beautiful as its beaches. Active couples can hike through nutmeg and banana trees to the popular Seven Sisters Falls, a stunning collection of seven waterfalls in the Grand Etang forest reserve. Take a swim in the sparkling mountain water or relax on nearby rocks.

Couples can take a high-speed ferry to the smaller Grenada islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, but even more tenacious travelers can visit the tiny spit of sand appropriately named Sandy Island, just off the west coast of Carriacou. The uninhabited cay is the epitome of a tropical, deserted island, surrounded by clear water and coral reefs that make it a favorite for snorkelers and beach bums alike.
